SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Encouraging your child to participate in the Summer Reading Program will help retain hard-earned reading and language skills and prevent the dreaded “summer slide”.

The fundamental keys for the development of lifelong learners are reading aloud and reading for enjoyment. Especially in young children, quantity trumps quality in terms of building reading fluency. So, let your children choose what they enjoy reading over the summer. Make reading FUN!

There are three levels available—toddlers though teens—in our program with age appropriate rewards for each bracket. Our model is developed to reinforce money and time management, independent decision making and higher level thinking.

We encourage reading, but not to the exclusion of all other activities; we all know that even the most voracious reader can’t read 24 hours a day. Encourage other interests and honest record keeping!

FALL AND WINTER READING CHALLENGES

Our Winter Reading Challenge, 50 to Grow On, is a read-to-me program open to children ages 7 and younger and runs from January 1 - March 31. You will register and log online on BEANSTACK. We curate 40 books each year and you can add an additional 10 books of your choosing. This program frequently introduces parents to undiscovered authors and children to new genres. Children earn an activity badge for each book read and a completion prize for finishing. They will also receive a virtual raffle ticket for a chance on a stuffed animal. Again, ALL logging must be done on BEANSTACK by March31st. Completion prizes must be picked up by April 3.

Family Reading Challenge - Grades 1-8 January 1, 2024-March 31, 2024

The Family Reading Challenge is a read aloud literacy program for children in grades 1 through 8. This program is designed to make "the road to reading" a journey that everyone enjoys taking together. The list includes books at different reading levels and in varied genres. Read whatever appeals to you and your family - there is something here for everyone! Each book earns an entry to a prize drawing. All reading and logging must done on BEANSTACK by March 31st. Raffle winners will be notified by April 3rd.
