Meet the Garde Musician

Professional cellist Christine Coyle will read Manuelo The Playing Mantis by Don Freeman and perform. This family concert is a unique opportunity you don’t want to miss!

A native of New York, currently living in Essex, Connecticut, cellist Christine Coyle is a respected performer and experienced teacher of cello.

She holds both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in performance from The Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Marion Feldman. During her course of study she was privileged to participate in master classes given by some of the preeminent teachers and virtuosos of our time, including Aldo Parisot, Itzhak Perlman, Yo Yo Ma, Burton Kaplan, Shlomo Mintz, and with members of both the American and Tokyo String Quartets.

She has been member of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra since 2001 and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra since 1991. Through the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s children’s programs, she has performed at dozens of schools throughout Connecticut. She also created programs for and performed in the NHSO’s Family Concert Series. She performed with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic for 25 years. She has also participated in numerous productions at the Goodspeed Opera House and performed and recorded as a member of The Ambrosia Trio for 10 years.

She is currently a member of the faculty of the Community Music School in Essex since 2004 and the Thames Valley Music School in New London since 2007. She also served as the conductor of the Thames Valley Junior and Advanced String Orchestras for three years from 2008-11.

Christine was appointed Adjunct Professor of Cello at Connecticut College in 2014.
